
There are four kinds of past tense.
1. Past Simple Tense 2. Past Continuous Tense 3. Past Perfect Tense 4. Past Perfect Continuous Tense
Such verb, which denotes that the subject did some work in past time that is called past simple tense.
Note: 1. "did" is the helping verb to this tense. 2. "did" is used, when we change an assertive sentence into interrogative, negative. 3. Second form of the verb is used in this tense. 4. When "did" is used, then first form is used by all the subjects.

Such verb, which modifies that the subject was going some work continuously in past time that is called past continuous tense.
Note: 1. "was" and "were" are the helping verbs to this tense. 2. "ing" form of the verb is used in this tense.

Such verb, which denotes that the subject started some work in past time and it was completed in the same time that is called past perfect tense.
Note: 1. "had" is its helping verb which is followed by all the subject. 2. Third form of the verb is used in this tense.

Such verb, which modifies that the subject started some work in past time and it was also continued in the same time that is called past perfect continuous tense.
